When people walk into my show, I want them to be able to see the passion and creativity that I have for my art. I also want to show others how much I have grown and learned while I have been here at Ouachita. I want to inspire others, just like I was inspired by a famous manga artist named Akira Toriyama. I grew up watching his TV shows Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z. I enjoyed how he could draw each character with distinct and interesting features and give them personalities so well. The characters were always growing and learning as their story went on. From the intense training/fighting to the hilarious comic bits here and there, Dragon Ball has always caught my eye and inspired me to want to create drawings as well. I remember I would come home from school, run to my room, grab my sketch book, and turn on the TV immediately. A lot of my life was influenced from Toriyama’s main character, Goku, because he was always so happy, kind to others, and was always looking for ways to push himself as a martial arts fighter. Because of this, some of my pieces in the show will be tied back to Toriyama. I grew up in a wrestling family, so that was another connection that I had with the show that helped drive my passion for art even further. Just like training for a wrestling event, I have spent late hours going over and over again putting myself to the challenge of creating something new and fun. This is why I have included graphics that I have done for Ouachita’s Athletic Department and work that I have done as a student. I love art because you never know what you will be working on the next day and that is the beauty of it. Just like life, art is what you make of it. Have a warrior’s heart and strive to be challenged each day to grow even more.
